BTV Solo is a new beat making program for Mac and PC that was named as the “Best Innovation” by DJ Zone Magazine. It has an array features that appeal to skilled producers, with a layout and ease-of-use that’s perfect for beginners as well.
What BTV Solo has managed to do is to combine the ability for a complete beginner to start making legitimate sounding beats right out of the box, with tools and kits that have left the professionals with their mouths watering. In this review of BTV Solo, we’re going to be taking a look at just some of those features, and also discussing various other pros and cons of BTV Solo to give you an honest view of whether or not this software is right for you.
Beginners might not know the importance of working with actual wav files instead of just mp3 files, but a lot of people have started with software that only uses mp3s. I have heard of people who have worked tirelessly on their music, only to find out the quality just is not there because they were working with mp3 samples instead of wav samples. It’s not broadcast quality, and they are left feeling discourages. Wav’s are a lossless audio format, meaning they’re bigger but they’re also a lot more detailed, they sound better. This is a huge plus for BTV Solo.
For someone who isn’t familiar with making music on a computer, BTV Solo does everything it can to make the process easy to learn. They’ve included a library of videos that will show you everything you need to get started. All the instructional materials are simple to follow along with. If you already know your way around, you’ll appreciate the sound quality of the included kits. Alone, they already more than justify the cost. So if you’ve already got some beat making software and you’re worried about trying out a new one, just know you’re also getting some incredibly, unique kits.
Used by some of the biggest names in the biz
It’s worth mentioning that we did notice a small bug in the software. When you select your audio input settings in the System menu, it doesn’t seem to save those settings meaning the next time you load up BTV Solo you’ll need to input the settings again. This is hardly a deal-breaker, and at the very most it’s only a small convenience. We’ve already mentioned it to the creator of BTV Solo and chances are it will be fixed in the next version. With any unique and new software there are always some small bugs, we’re just mentioning this as a testament to the high-level of customer support that BTV Solo offers.
BTV Solo is an impressive piece of software. We have yet to see any software this powerful in the sub $100-200 price range, and BTV Solo is currently under $50. This includes the software itself, all the tutorials and videos, and some stellar sound kits.
